A permanent 50mph speed limit is set to be introduced on a stretch of the A19 in the North East.

The new speed restriction will cover sections of both the northbound and southbound carriageways, at Stockton.

In a bid to improve safety and traffic flow, the new limit will apply to the section between the Portrack and Stockton Road interchanges.

The new rule will come into force on September 30.

The northbound carriageway affected begins 50 metres north of the exit slip road at Stockton Road Interchange and extends to the entry slip road at Portrack Interchange, covering a distance of 2,420 metres.

Meanwhile, the southbound carriageway affected also starts 50 metres north of the exit slip road at Portrack Interchange and continues to 140 metres north of the entry slip road at Stockton Road Interchange, covering 2,500 metres.

The speed limit will also be enforced on the northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Portrack Interchange.

National Highways Limited has provided these details as part of an official order, which can be viewed in full at the Stockton Customer Service Centre, Central Library, The Square, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 1TU.

There, residents can also inspect a location plan and a statement explaining the reasons for this decision.
