Sheffield Central library needs to deter undesirable clientele - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Paige Turner, Sheffield.

Sheffield Central library should start playing the radio on loudspeakers for half an hour each day after opening to make it uncomfortable for all the drug and alcohol addicts because without being nasty it deserves better than certain elements of the current clientele.

From being a valued educational institution a few years ago, it has now been relegated sadly to a doss house for the various creeps, alcoholics and drug users who have nothing better to do than annoy members of the public using the library for reasons of self improvement or expanding their minds through literature and the arts.

They say that like attracts like sand the current state of the building cannot help but attract down and outs. I feel so sorry for some of the staff who have to act as babysitters for some of the so-called adults who frequent the building who need to be mollycoddled and told not to shout, act aggressively or to drink or smoke in the doorways.

The library should be treated with reverence and respect as a place to go to read, learn and expand one's mind, not as a doss house.
