Watch: Disqualified driver hits 130mph in dramatic police pursuit before being jailed

A disqualified driver who reached speeds of more than 130mph during a late-night police pursuit in North Yorkshire was jailed just two days later.

Mohammed Muqadas Hussain, 22, from Huddersfield, led officers on a high-speed pursuit in the early hours of Wednesday (Sep 23), after initially failing to stop for Durham Police.

The pursuit began at around 12.48am before Hussain crossed into North Yorkshire, where officers from North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit picked up the vehicle on the A1(M) at Junction 50.

Hussain continued south, driving dangerously and at high speed in an attempt to evade officers.

During the pursuit, the driver reached speeds of more than 130mph, police reported

During the pursuit, he reached speeds of more than 130mph. At one point, he drove at 110mph in a 30mph zone and travelled the wrong way around a roundabout near Morrisons in Minskip.

He then continued out of Minskip along the A6055 towards Knaresborough Golf Club before eventually stopping on Blackthorn Avenue.

Hussain abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot but was arrested a short time later.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Just two days after the pursuit, Hussain appeared at York Magistrates' Court, where he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

In a statement on social media North Yorkshire Police said: “The footage shows just some of the dangerous driving our officers faced that night.

“Our Roads Policing officers work around the clock to target those who put themselves and other road users at risk.

“If you’re disqualified, don’t drive. If you fail to stop for us, expect our officers to come after you.

“And to the residents of Blackthorne Avenue in Knaresborough, sorry for the unexpected wake-up call in the early hours of the morning!”
