A telehandler fetched £80,500 at a machinery sale.

The joint dispersal sale, held at Guild House Farm, Knapton, was conducted by York Auction Centre in association with Boulton & Cooper, who had managed the estate sale, following the sale of the Knapton Estate near Malton in the spring.

Neighbouring farmers Geoff Webster and Simon Byas hosted the event, offering a large selection of modern tractors, loaders, combines, and other agricultural machinery.

Will Amos, sales manager at York Auction Centre, said: "This was a very genuine dispersal sale and it was particularly pleasing to see the quality of the machinery rewarded with such a strong trade.

"There was a real buzz around the sale throughout the final day, with excellent local support alongside bidders joining us from much further afield.

"The level of online participation also shows how these sales can now reach well beyond the local area, while still retaining the atmosphere and competitive bidding of a traditional on-farm auction."

Bidding opened online on September 11, giving buyers several days to place bids before the live sale concluded on September 16.

The online catalogue attracted more than 32,000 views, and 523 bidders registered for the sale, with participation both in person and remotely.

Top price of the day went to the Webster family’s JCB TM320s telehandler, which had recorded just 2,440 hours and sold for £80,500 plus buyer’s premium to a North Yorkshire farmer.

A Massey Ferguson 8280 tractor, a model growing in collectable value, sold for £32,500 and will now be heading to Southern Ireland.

Other notable sales included a 2018 Amazone UX3200 Special 28m trailed sprayer, which sold for £29,000, and a Sumo Trio 3 trailed subsoiler, which achieved £17,200.

A 2016 Herbst 25ft low loader trailer sold for £12,200.

A spokesperson said: "Online bidding played a significant part in the final result, accounting for 50% of lots sold and 71% of the total sale value. Successful online purchasers came from across all four nations of the UK, as well as Ireland and mainland Europe."

Mr Amos said: "Through the YAC platform we utilise our database of over 60,000 local and international machinery focused buyers.

"Our pre-sale targeted marketing is what sets us apart, we are in regular contact with buyers of certain machines, which gives a great base to build from and achieve the premium prices seen at Knapton."

Simon Byas, one of the vendors, said: "Having bidding available both online and live on site made the sale accessible to a wider range of buyers and worked really well for the machinery being offered."

Geoff Webster said: "There was a good level of interest in the sale and we were pleased with the outcome.

"It was a significant day for us and everything came together well."
