A Darlington man has admitted a serious assault but must wait for his two co-defendants’ trial to finish before he is sentenced.

Will Ryan admitted unlawfully wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm at a further plea hearing at Durham Crown Court.

He had previously denied both the charge and the more serious allegation of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

The incident happened on November 21, 2024. The three defendants initially pleaded not guilty in September last year, with the trial set for October 5 this year.

With the trial approaching, Ryan, 28, of Grange Road, Darlington, changed his plea to guilty to unlawful wounding on Monday (September 28).

Judge Timothy Clayson adjourned sentencing until next month’s trial ends.

His co-defendants are both aged 29, one from Darlington and the other from Stainton Grove, Barnard Castle.

Ryan was granted bail and will return to court for sentencing after the trial.
