A well-known pop-rock and tv star visited one of York’s newest nightclubs at the weekend.

Danny Jones of McFly spent a couple of hours in Ruby Rae’s Country Bar at 2 Micklegate.

After calling at 6pm on Saturday, the 40-year-old singer-songwriter posed for some photos and talked to the “over the moon” customers who recognised him.

Dan Cooke, one of the co-founders of Ruby Rae’s, said: “I’m a big McFly fan. I was over the moon. Danny was getting lots of attention. He was deal polite. Everyone was over the moon the see him. Unfortunately, he did not play the guitar.”

Dean Saunders, the other Ruby Rae’s co-founder, said Danny was the most famous celebrity Ruby Rae’s has ever received since the first one opened in Newcastle 16 months ago.

Ruby Rae’s York opened at the start of August.

Dean said: “In Newcastle we get many footballers and ex-footballers. We are most definitely chuffed to see Danny in York so soon.”

Ruby Rae’s also posted on Facebook about Danny’s visit: “The main man himself came in to see us yesterday in York! “He loves country, he can split the G [play a Guiness drinking game] and he also told us he’s a fan of Ruby Rae’s and knew we had one in Newcastle too?! Obviously made our whole weekend, what a legend!”

In addition to McFly, Danny is also well-known as a judge on the singing shows The Voice Kids UK and The Voice UK.

In 2024, he won the fifth series of the Masked Singer UK and the 24th series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
