'Absolutely gorgeous' - Visitors flock to Flower Carpet and capture stunning pictures

Visitors have continued to flock to Bradford city centre over the weekend to see the eye-catching Flower Carpet outside City Hall.

The internationally renowned project has been brought to the UK for the very first time.

All weekend, interested onlookers have been seen gathered around the barriers surrounding the display, posing for selfies with the dramatic backdrop.

Among those taking in the experience were several members of the T&A Camera Club, who have captured a series of impressive images.

Inspired by Bradford’s textile heritage and its communities, local artist Shiraaz Ali has combined archival pattern and symbols for a huge bright, bold and powerful design spanning 29-meters wide.

This living artwork is handmade from over 300,000 colourful dahlia flowerheads.

The world renowned Flower Carpet has been a regular event in Belgium since the 1970s, and for this UK first, it has been created live and displayed in the gothic surrounds of Centenary Square in the grounds of Bradford’s City Hall.

The feedback on the T&A Facebook page has been overwhelmingly positive.

One observer, Syeda Shanaz Ahmed, said: "I attended the flower carpet event and was amazed by the dahlia flower display. The scent from the flowers was amazing. I was lucky to be present when the light and audio show started at 7.30.

"My friends travelled from nearby cities to attend the event with me. We got chatting with a lovely bunch of people from Hull. Good to see that the Broadway shopping centre and Darley Street Market were busy."

Another, John Ackroyd, said: "It was absolutely amazing. Went today with friends and met some visitors who travelled from other cities which is great to see."

Christopher Smith said: "Saw them putting it together. I'll be honest, don't think I'd have the patience lol. It's beautiful! Especially the design. Well done guys! Let's show rest of the UK what Bradford’s really about! Stronger together."

Vicky Clifton said: "Absolutely gorgeous."

Paul Bradley seemed mildly impressed, stating: "It's very nice and well done , but it's not like the pre event photo . It is not a Carpet of flowers it's just a small Rug in comparison."
