A CARE home is calling on the community to get creative with needle and thread.

Springbank Care Home in Silsden has launched an appeal for handmade clothes protectors, inviting crafters, sewers and community members to produce stylish and dignified alternatives to traditional clothes protectors for residents.

The scheme aims to upcycle old garments like patterned blouses and shirts, turning them into discreet protectors that blend seamlessly with everyday clothing while offering practical coverage.

Lisa Pickles, home manager at Springbank, said: "We are so grateful to Wendy for her wonderful donation, which has already made such a positive difference for our residents.

"Preserving dignity and independence during mealtimes is so important, and these beautiful clothes protectors allow residents to enjoy their meals comfortably without compromising on personal style.

"We would love to welcome more donations from kind-hearted members of our local community who enjoy sewing or upcycling."

The appeal follows a recent donation from Wendy Brown, who created a collection of brightly coloured, upcycled protectors for residents.

Each protector is crafted using the front panel of a garment, retaining features like collars and buttons, and is backed with soft, washable fabric for comfort and durability.

Donations can be dropped off at the care home on Howden Road.
