A FOLK club is celebrating 70 years as the world’s oldest continuously running folk club.
Bradford’s Topic Folk Club will mark the milestone with a live music festival at Darley Street Market on Saturday, October 3.
The event, called TopicFest, will run from 11.45am to 5pm and feature a mix of folk, blues, jazz, skiffle, bhangra and more.
Chris Gaffney of Topic Folk Club said: "It is astonishing to think that a group of like-minded Bradfordians came together 70 years ago to play folk music in the centre of our city, and that Topic Folk Club is still a focal point for performers and appreciative audiences in the heart of Bradford."
The line-up includes Bradford-born singer-songwriter Bella Gaffney, Panjabi folk and bhangra band Anjaana, and folk musician Lewis Pugh.
Other acts include Wharfedale Wayzgoose Border Morris, songwriting duo Plumhall, and blues band Hokum.
Councillor Ian Walker, Bradford Council’s executive member for neighbourhoods and communities, said: "Topic Folk Club is a fantastic part of Bradford’s cultural heritage, and reaching its 70th anniversary is a remarkable achievement."
Northern Monk will provide an outdoor bar, with additional live music outside the market before the official start of the event.
