Long-running plans for a small holiday park consisting of five static caravans at Charltons off the A171 Birkbrow Road near Guisborough have been approved.
Redcar and Cleveland Council approved the plans last month, allowing the conversion of land described as ‘horsicultural’.
First submitted in 2024, the plans were eventually approved by a planning officer under delegated powers.
The officer’s report said the scheme would also include outdoor seating and decking.
Consultees included the North York Moors National Park, which said it had no objections to the plans, but recommended that existing natural screening along the development boundaries shielding the site from the A171 was maintained “in perpetuity in order to minimise the visual impact”.
It also called for a condition requiring all development lighting to comply with ‘dark night skies’ standards.
Council development engineers initially called for the application to be deferred over concerns about vehicle access.
They said the plans did not show how vehicles would turn and manoeuvre at the A171 junction.
After receiving further information showing “appropriate visibility splays”, the engineers said in July they had no objection and saw no highway-safety grounds for refusal.
The planning officer said there were no similar developments nearby and the scheme would “bring an investment and tourist facility which the borough is keen to attract and develop”.
The report said: “The buildings proposed are of a suitable scale for the location and are of a similar design and appearance to the existing buildings in the area.”
The report said the nearest home was south of the site, across the A171, and that the distance and existing vegetation would prevent overlooking or loss of privacy.
