A luxury rail journey from Weardale to Edinburgh is set to return later this year after its inaugural trip was a sell-out success.
The Edinburgh Express will run again on November 7, taking passengers directly from County Durham to the Scottish capital aboard the iconic Intercity 125 train.
The Durham-based operator will pick up passengers at Stanhope, Frosterley, Wolsingham, Witton-le-Wear, Bishop Auckland and Darlington before heading direct to Edinburgh, offering a rare direct route to Edinburgh.
The company said the service was being brought back following strong demand after its debut in 2025.
Passengers will have around five hours to explore the city before returning to the North East later the same day.
This year's trip will also introduce a new premium dining option.
First Class passengers will be served breakfast on the outward journey and a three-course meal on the return leg, while Standard Class travellers will have access to an onboard trolley service offering drinks and snacks.
Jack Purdham, chief rail officer at Excursions by Rail, said the company was pleased to see the train return.
He said: "We are delighted to bring the Edinburgh Express back for 2026 following its successful debut last summer.
"This year's train promises to be even better, as we are introducing our Premium Dining service to the Edinburgh Express for the first time.
"Whether passengers are planning a festive shopping trip to Edinburgh or simply looking for a memorable day out, the Edinburgh Express offers a special way to travel and an experience we are confident they will enjoy."
The trip will give visitors the chance to spend the day exploring attractions including the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the National Museum of Scotland and the city's shopping districts.
Excursions by Rail is part of the Holdham Group, which also owns Bishop Trains in Bishop Auckland.
