Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is still awaiting an official response from the US over its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Donald Trump has publicly rejected the Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait and end fighting, claiming the US was “winning tremendously”.
Araghchi presented the seven-day plan to American negotiators on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. It stated that Tehran would reopen the key waterway and resume talks on its nuclear programme if the US lifts its naval blockade, waives oil sanctions and observes a ceasefire that includes Lebanon.
Araghchi told reporters at the United Nations: “The choice now rests with the United States.”
But the US president said on Saturday: “I rejected their deal. They want to make a deal to open the Hormuz Strait immediately because they're losing so badly.”
In a post on his Truth Social platform in the early hours of Saturday UK time, Trump branded the Strait of Hormuz “Trump Strait” in a taunt aimed at Tehran.
Araghchi said Iran would not take decisions based on Trump’s comments to reporters, and said it expected a reply via mediators with the US’s “definitive views”.
Multiple arrests during major incident near UK airbase used by US
British police have arrested several men on suspicion of explosives offences during a major incident near an airbase used by the US in England.
The British government gave authorisation to the US to use RAF Fairford to carry out strikes on Iranian missile sites that are attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned in July that any base used in strikes would be a legitimate target.
A Reuters eyewitness said armed police had blocked access to the main gate of the base, while equipment had been positioned in front of access points and residents of a nearby village were evacuated to a leisure centre.
Around 30 emergency vehicles, including police cars, ambulances and fire engines, were stationed in the village of Fairford near the base.
Army bomb disposal experts have been examining a number of vehicles in the area and residents nearby were evacuated from their homes Sunday morning.

Iran claims it has seized US underwater vehicle
Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy claims to have seized a US Remus 600 autonomous underwater vehicle operating in the Strait of Hormuz which it alleges was conducting espionage, according to state media.
The Guards said the vehicle had been captured using intelligence and electronic warfare capabilities and was being examined by Iranian specialists to recover its data.
The US has yet to respond to the claims.
Iran says its ready for any renewed US attacks
Iran's armed forces are prepared for any renewed U.S. attacks, army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia has said, after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end fighting.
Akraminia said Iran's armed forces were fully prepared for confrontation and warned that the US would suffer greater damage if it launched another attack on his country.
Separately, Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami said the war was at a critical and decisive stage, adding that Tehran would not accept a situation in which it was unable to trade while foreign powers used the region's strategic waterways.
"If Iran cannot trade, if Iran cannot live, no one will be able to trade or live.
“The Strait of Hormuz is the strait of our dignity and honour, and it will not be allowed for the country's enemies to use this major logistical chokepoint while the Iranian people are deprived.”

Israel’s military has carried out air strikes in southern Lebanon targeting what it claimed were sites used by Hezbollah to launch drones.
The military said it launched attacks after Hezbollah fighters launched an “explosive drone” at Israeli forces.
US envoy says record 146 nations have condemned Iran
The US ambassador to the UN has claimed that a record 146 countries have condemned Iran over attacks on civilian shipping.
Mike Waltz told Fox News: "What you’ve seen in the last 13 days are strikes particularly focused on Iran’s terrorist activities attacking civilian shipping."
“A record 146 have stood with us in condemning those activities,” he said, adding that Iran's maritime operations were “acts of desperation”.
Netanyahu tries to claim Israel’s war in Gaza is ‘opposite of genocide’
Benjamin Netanyahu launched an incendiary attack against Israel’s critics at the United Nations on Thursday as he defended his military action in Gaza.
Dozens of delegates walked out of the address as the Israeli leader branded those departing “moral cowards”.
He claimed that Israel’s war in Gaza is not a genocide and is in fact “the opposite of genocide”. The country faces allegations of genocide in a pending case at the International Court of Justice brought by South Africa.

Israel has killed over 74,000 Palestinians in Gaza, says health ministry
The Palestinian death toll from the nearly three-year Israel-Hamas war has surpassed 74,000, according to Gaza's health ministry.
The ministry in the Hamas-run strip said the Palestinian death toll has risen to 74,016 people, with 175,068 wounded.
While a ceasefire that took effect on 10 October has halted the heaviest fighting, Israeli strikes have continued in what the military has said are responses to threats or attacks.
Since the ceasefire, 1,145 Palestinians have been killed, said the ministry. UN agencies say the ministry's figures are typically reliable and have been consistent with independent sources in past conflicts.
Israelis and Americans disapprove heavily of the UN, according to new poll
Americans and Israelis are among the countries that disapprove most heavily of the United Nations performance, according to a new poll.
Israelis are the most negative in their view of the UN, with just 9 per cent of people approving its actions and a net rating of -61, according to the Gallup survey.
The figures come during a difficult period for the UN, as it attempts to address humanitarian disasters and wars during a time of deepening global division, and a US president in Donald Trump who has been hostile towards many UN initiatives.

Hamas leader says Israel used Gaza 'blood' to fuel election
A Hamas leader has claimed that Israelis have campaigned off Gaza's "blood" to win the next elections, in which prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is locked in a tight contest as he seeks to stay in power.
"Whether this or that person comes to power, or this party or another, our people have suffered at the hands of all Israeli parties," Khalil al-Hayya told Qatar's Al-Araby.
"We absolutely refuse to allow the blood, suffering, and cause of the Palestinian people to serve as fuel for Israeli elections. What matters to us is that our people achieve their goals, aspirations and legitimate rights."

Omani foreign minister Badr Albusaidi at the UN said Muscat will continue efforts to protect navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while calling for "self-restraint" from all sides in the Middle East war.
"We call upon all parties concerned to settle their outstanding disputes through pursuing a policy of self-restraint and foresight, and through engaging in dialog to reach consensual, political solutions and sustainable understandings for the benefit of all," Albusaidi said.
"Oman once again reaffirms its steadfast commitment to continuing its efforts aimed at safeguarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz... We also call upon all parties to cooperate with Oman in these efforts."
