A man is being sought by police following a wrong-way crash on the M1 near Wakefield which left another driver with potentially life-changing injuries.

West Yorkshire Police has issued an appeal to trace David Nutall, 38, from the Rotherham area, in connection with the collision which happened shortly after 11pm on September 11, near Junction 41 of the motorway.

Officers want to speak to Nutall on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle.

Nutall is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build, with brown hair.

What happened?

The appeal relates to a collision involving a blue Kia Proceed and a red Dacia Sandero on the northbound carriageway of the M1.

Police said the Kia had been driven the wrong way along the motorway after failing to stop for officers before it collided with the Dacia.

The driver of the Dacia, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which continue to be treated as potentially life-changing.

Three people were arrested at the scene following the collision.

An 18-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman were all arrested and have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone who knows of Nutall's whereabouts or has information which could help officers locate him is asked to contact the West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via the force's Live Chat service, quoting reference 13260519370.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
