A FRESH campaign has been launched to save a much-loved arts centre.
Actor, writer and director Reece Dinsdale is leading the efforts to secure the future of Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax, with support from local businesses and the community.
Mr Dinsdale, a patron of the venue since 2017, said: "Square Chapel is far too important to Halifax to simply disappear.
"It has been an extraordinary home for theatre, film, music, comedy, community groups and emerging talent, and I know how much it means to people across the town and beyond."
The Grade II listed building, which reopened as an arts centre in 2017 following a £6.6 million redevelopment, has been closed to the public since February 2025 and is currently up for sale.
The campaign to save Square Chapel has gained significant public backing, with more than 3,000 people signing a petition and campaigners organising meetings and demonstrations.
Andrew Hawley, a Halifax businessman involved in the talks, said: "The overwhelming support from the local community, along with the commitment from patrons like Reece Dinsdale and experienced local figures, shows just how much Square Chapel means to Calderdale."
Discussions remain in the early stages, with no purchase or operating agreement yet in place.
