Baildon pub faces 'post-Covid challenge' but returns to CAMRA's Good Beer Guide

A BRADFORD village pub is one of more than 20 public houses to have been included in the 2027 Good Beer Guide.

Bradford CAMRA has released its new list of pubs included in the guide, with entries from across the district.

One of the returning venues is The Bulls Head on Westgate in Baildon.

It was not included in the 2026 guide but has been listed again for 2027.

Juanita Kearns, who has run the pub for 15 years, said: "We've been featured in the Good Beer Guide quite a few times and we've won CAMRA's Pub of the Season before.

"It's a nice attribute to have but we don't gain any more trade because of it.

"Trade is up and down, but since Covid it's been a lot different than it used to be.

"It's a very hard business to be in these days.

"We're a village pub with a loyal regular clientele.

"We feature four real ales including Tetley's, Goose Eye Bitter, Goose Eye Chinook and Saltaire Blonde."

The Bulls Head is one of more than 20 Bradford pubs listed in the 2027 edition of the guide, compiled by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Peter Down, a member of Bradford CAMRA, said the Good Beer Guide 2027 celebrates pubs that deliver consistently high-quality real ale, with each entry selected by CAMRA members through a combination of nominations and a scoring system.

Mr Down said: "We took into account beer scoring from a database of members who rated beers from one (poor) to five (excellent).

"The Good Beer Guide is about good beer.

"It's about pubs serving quality beer on a consistent basis.

"It's a track record of how pubs perform and serve good beer over the last 12 months.

"It's nice to see the pubs in the Good Beer Guide maintain that high standard.

"It's also nice to see places like The Bulls Head back."

He also highlighted the challenges faced by pubs in more rural areas.

Mr Down said: "We still have our fingers crossed at the moment for pubs in outlying villages with limited public transport.

"We're hoping when they bring in the new Weaver network that bus services will improve."

The 2027 Good Beer Guide list includes the following pubs:
