A cordon remains in place as a murder probe enters its third day following the death of a woman above a Darlington pub.

A woman named locally as care home worker Leanne was pronounced dead in the flat above The Greyhound pub on Parkgate around 9.15pm on Wednesday (September 23).

Officers were still at the scene on Saturday morning (September 26), with access restricted around the pub.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 27-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Since the incident, a sea of floral tributes has been left outside the pub in memory of Leanne.

Leanne, who worked at Ventress Care Home, was found at a flat above The Greyhound pub on Parkgate

Friends, family and colleagues at Ventress Hall care home in Darlington said she would "do anything for anybody".

One tribute reads: "Always in our hearts, taken too soon. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel."

Another says: "Our deepest sympathy and love during this hard time."

A further message reads: "RIP our beautiful Auntie. You are so loved and going to be a huge miss. Love you always."

Another loved one wrote: "RIP my best friend. I will miss you forever."

A fundraising appeal launched to support Leanne's family has raised more than £7,200 in just over a day.

The GoFundMe page, set up by Natasha Nicholson, states: "As a community, we want to come together to support Leanne's family at this devastating time.

“We are raising funds to support the family through this difficult time and to provide for any additional needs the family may have as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.

“Every contribution, no matter how small, will help ease the burden and allow them the space to grieve without further worry.

A resident previously told how she saw around five or six police cars, an ambulance and numerous officers outside the property on Wednesday night.

The 42-year-old said: "It's just awful and so sad. I think she was well known around Darlington as well.
