A North East mum is celebrating after taking her husband’s advice and winning £120,000 on a lottery ticket.

The anonymous Newcastle mum won £10,000 a month for a year on The National Lottery’s Set For Life after matching five numbers in the Monday, August 24, 2026, draw.

She rarely plays Set For Life but bought a ticket online after winning £1 on Lotto, following her husband’s advice.

The winner said: "This is life-changing money for us, we can now do some lovely things.

"We'll be able to create memories with the family by having some great holidays.

"It's the choice we have now that will make things so much easier.

"It's just fantastic."

She and her family plan to book a holiday and may treat themselves to a new kitchen.

Kathy Garrett, Winners’ Experience Lead at Allwyn, the operator of The National Lottery, said: "Congratulations to our lucky winner from the Newcastle area.

"What a wonderful bit of advice from her husband, off the back of a £1 Lotto win.

"With a monthly boost for the year ahead, we're delighted she and her family can look forward to some special holidays together, and we wish them all the very best."

Players can buy and check National Lottery tickets through the app, website or at retail stores.

Online tickets are checked automatically, and winners are notified by email.

The National Lottery says every ticket helps fund good causes across the UK.

Around £33 million is raised each week for projects supporting the arts, sport, community groups and heritage sites.

Since its launch, The National Lottery has raised more than £53 billion for good causes, funding hundreds of projects in every postcode area.

The mum-of-two’s win shows how one ticket can change a player’s life while helping communities across the country.
