A MAIN route into York city centre is set to close next week while water mains works are carried out.
City of York Council said Walmgate is scheduled to close on September 29 between Margaret Street and Hope Street.
The council said the road is closed to allow the works to be carried out safely.
The closure is expected to run from 4am until 6am the same day, with access maintained for residents and emergency vehicles.
A diversion will operate via Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green, The Stonebow, Pavement, Piccadilly and St Denys Road.
