A charity named in memory of a York schoolboy who died after battling a brain tumour has received more than £67,000 from a housebuilder following a year of fundraising.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East raised the money for OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity, according to a community announcement.

The charity was founded in memory of nine-year-old Oscar Hughes, who died in 2014 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The housebuilder held several events since July 2025, including Christmas events, a charity golf day and a Partners Ball, according to the announcement.

Charity manager Phil Martinez said: “Barratt and David Wilson Homes have been so enthusiastic and committed in its support of us at every point.

“The amount of money raised is huge for a charity the size of ours and will help to change so many lives for the better.”

The company chose the charity as its Charity of the Year for 2025/26.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East managing director Daniel Smith said: “We’re delighted to have been able to focus our fundraising efforts on OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity

“By raising a significant amount, we will be able to support the charity to continue its admirable work supporting the local community.”
