A campaign highlighting the vital role of hospital discharge lounges is taking place across County Durham and Darlington this month.
County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust's 'Love your Lounge' month focuses on facilities at Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham.
The initiative aimed to inform patients, families, and staff about how these lounges support safe and timely hospital discharges.
For many patients, the final stage of their hospital stay involves spending time in a discharge lounge while arrangements for leaving hospital are completed.

This can involve waiting for medication, paperwork, transport, collection by family or friends, or transfer to another care setting.
The lounges provide a calm environment where patients continue to receive care and support from staff.
Outpatients and clinical site manager, Julie Form, said: "Leaving hospital is an important part of a patient’s recovery, and we want that experience to feel safe, supported and as smooth as possible.
"Our Discharge Lounges help patients feel one step closer to home while they wait for final arrangements – they are calm and welcoming spaces where patients continue to be cared for, supported and kept informed."
Throughout August, the Trust shared patient information, videos, posters, and real-life experiences to enhance understanding of discharge lounges' roles.

The campaign also encouraged patients and families to plan for leaving hospital by organising transport, suitable clothing, and any necessary home support.
The Trust is now exploring volunteer opportunities to help create an even more welcoming environment for patients using the lounges.
