One of North Yorkshire’s longest-running agricultural events is set to return this weekend, a celebration of farming, food and rural life.
The 112th Wensleydale Show will take place on Saturday, August 29 on fields overlooking the market town of Leyburn, and will be open to the public from 8am.
A full day of family-friendly activities, displays and competitions is planned, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers, stewards, Young Farmers and cadets who work alongside the committee, secretaries and treasurer to bring the event to life each year.

Visitors will have the chance to enjoy traditional livestock classes featuring prize-winning entries from across the region, including dairy and beef cattle, horses and ponies, and a wide variety of sheep breeds.
There will also be displays in horticulture, handicrafts and a growing young people’s section.

This year’s show will also feature its largest-ever vintage tractor section, with new and returning entrants competing for top honours.
A packed programme of entertainment is planned for the main ring, including the return of the popular Wharfedale terrier racing, open to all terrier-type dogs.

An open dog race will follow, giving dogs of all breeds the chance to take part in the fun.
Both events will take place at 11.15am and again at 4.45pm to close the show.
More than 120 outdoor trade stands will be on site, alongside a craft marquee showcasing the work of local artisans, and a larger-than-ever ‘Food from Farming’ tent filled with regional produce.

A free shuttle service to the showground will be provided by the Little White Bus, running from 8.30am to 5.30pm.
The bus will collect passengers from Leyburn market square and Wensleydale Railway station, with return journeys available throughout the day.

For the first time, organisers have used GPS technology to map out the show field under the guidance of show field manager James Hudson.
A new addition to the main ring programme is Jurassic Earth, which will bring life-sized dinosaurs to the showground for two performances at 11.45am and 3.30pm.
Organisers promise plenty of "laughing, screaming, singing… and roaring" during the family-friendly dinosaur shows.
This year also marks the first appearance of Autism Support Allies, who will host an inclusive area in the expanded young people’s zone.
