How Emmerdale star and 'lucky sausage' help brides have sunny wedding days

Despite the recent hot and dry weather, brides are leaving nothing to chance and the quirky tradition of burying a sausage the night before their wedding to ward off rain is still in full swing.

So much so, that North Yorkshire firm HECK! sold out of their Bride’s Lucky Sausage this month, with hundreds of brides with wedding day weather jitters snapping them up.

With such high temperatures the food firm didn’t expect there to be such a demand but it seems the former little-known superstition of burying the banger in the garden has now become a full-blow bridal ritual.

Now the firm has restocked the HECK! Bride’s Lucky Sausage – a limited-edition sausage with, naturally, a generous pinch of good luck. The Bride’s Lucky Sausage has certainly become more than just a novelty.

Jamie Keeble. Co-founder of HECK! said: “With such a brilliant weather forecast we didn’t expect such a demand but since launching the Bride’s Lucky Sausage it really seems to have become a must-have on the wedding checklist.

“We had to restock as we had brides across the UK not wanting to miss out on this pre-wedding ritual.”

HECK! launched the Bride’s Lucky Sausage last year after one of the firm’s co-founders Roddy Keeble married former Emmerdale actress Mica Proctor and she buried a sausage the night before her wedding and had sunshine on the day, so they decided there was something in this.

The tradition then took off on social media, with scores of brides sharing content of them burying a sausage the day before and then showing the sunny wedding day images, most of the content went viral on Instagram and TikTok as brides embraced the superstition.

Earlier this year, wedding venue Thief Hall in Northallerton also started having the HECK! Bride’s Lucky Sausage placed in its rooms as a must-have activity for brides on the eve of their wedding.

Jessica Barker of Thief Hall said: “We’ve seen how popular the ‘bury a banger’ tradition has become and wanted to make it as easy and as fun as possible to be part of that experience at Thief Hall.”

Wedding planner, Claire Edwards, said:” For a growing number of brides, burying a banger is becoming part of the wedding checklist, right up there with something borrowed, something blue and desperately trying not to cry during the vows.

“Brides are even doing it in the heatwave as they are not leaving anything to chance.”

Bride India Miller from Harrogate, buried a sausage the night before her wedding and had great weather.

India said:" It was just perfect weather on our wedding day which is evident in our gorgeous pics and the 'Lucky Sausage' definitely made a difference."

Laura Macfarland from Harrogate got in touch with HECK! in a panic saying: “Hey, help, my wedding is at the weekend and after the most incredible weather all month it’s due to rain. I need your Bride’s Lucky Sausage but delivery is too late, can I come to you in person to pick one up?”

She did get hold of a pack and had amazing sunshine on her wedding day too.
