York restaurant creates ‘incredible’ cake burger

A York fried chicken restaurant is taking the saying ‘have your cake and eat it’ to a whole new level…

Clucking Oinks, located at Spark York on Piccadilly, makes some of the best fried chicken in the city and are known for their incredibly stacked burgers.

National Burger Day takes place tomorrow, Thursday 27 August – and to celebrate one of the UK’s favourite foods, Clucking Oinks have created a fried chicken burger…inside a cake.

Called ‘Schools out for Clucking’, the epic burger features their signature fried chicken with crunchy peanut butter, crispy smoked streaky bacon, grape jelly, all sandwiched in the nostalgic school cake.

This isn’t the first time Clucking Oinks have created a crazy flavour concoction. In August 2024, owner Mike Brand came up with a special burger that featured hot fried chicken with a Cinnabon pastry as a bun, and last year there was the ‘Donutter’ which was fried chicken in a jam donut.

Now the latest sweet and savoury combo is school cake – complete with sprinkles of course!

If you want to try this one-of-a-kind burger, you’ll have to be quick! The National Burger Day special is a one day only appearance for tomorrow, and the burger is ‘very limited numbers, first coming first served’, according to social media.

And people are anticipating it on social media, with one person commenting ‘Damn…that looks incredible’, with another adding that it ‘Might be the best looking thing I’ve ever seen’.

See it for yourself at Spark York!
