Earlier in the summer, McDonalds won planning permission from Calderdale Council to build the new restaurant on land next to the Sun Wood Service Station on Halifax Road in Shelf.
The application, approved by the council’s Planning Committee had seen 153 letters of objection received by the council – there were also 136 letters of support and one “neutral” representation.
But it seems there is an issue with an element of nature to resolve, according to a planning application.
Branch Busters Tree Services Limited have applied to Calderdale Council seeking permission to trim trees along the edge of the site and fell a cluster of Ash trees which are subject to ash dieback.
Ash dieback is a fungal disease that attacks ash trees, causing them to lose leaves, die back in the crown and, in many cases, eventually die.
A number of trees at the site – the council’s Planning Portal states the application and McDonald’s cases are related – are subject to a Tree Preservation Order, including hawthorn, oak and sycamore as well as ash, hence the need for an application to do the work.
