A DRUG dealer who benefited by more than £360,000 will pay back just under £16,000.
That was the figure agreed in a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing at Bradford Crown Court and comes 11 months after Amar Rashid was convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to supply, and acquiring criminal property, namely a large amount of cash.
In February, Rashid, 32, and formerly of Mount Pleasant Avenue in Halifax, was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison.
What happened at this hearing?
During the brief hearing on Wednesday, His Honour Judge Jonathan Rose heard that the benefit figure attributed to Rashid was £364,388,42.
The available figure was £15,884.13.
That is the amount he will pay back via a confiscation order.
Judge Rose ordered the money to be paid within three months and set a default period of six months’ imprisonment if it is not.
Part of significant operation
Rashid was among 36 people arrested during police raids in late 2024 aimed at dismantling drug-dealing in Calderdale.
That covert operation, led by Calderdale’s Precision Team, worked with the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, West Yorkshire Police’s Specialist Support Group, and the Halifax Neighbourhood Policing Team.
It resulted in the arrests of 36 people of whom 27 were charged with a total of more than 110 offences of Class A drugs supply.
During the operation, officers recovered more than £100,000 in cash and £25,000 worth of heroin, crack cocaine, and cannabis.
Weapons, including batons, knuckle dusters, and knives, were also seized.
