Search the Public Notice Portal A developer has been given the go-ahead to build two new units at a well-known Calderdale industrial estate – 20 years after one might have been placed there.
Calderdale Council planning officers approved Mr L. Hayes of Wattlid Ltd’s application to build the new units at Moderna Way industrial estate at Mytholmroyd.
Planners noted that 20 years ago permission was given for a building on this site and although some excavation for this had taken this place it was not built and the planning permission expired.
Now permission was sought for the erection of two buildings on the site, one adjoining the existing row of small industrial units positioned parallel to the Rochdale Canal.
This building would have storage space at ground floor level and an office at first floor.
The other would be irregularly shaped, be positioned next to the River Calder and would be used for general industrial use as well as storage and distribution.
Changes will be made to the access road and more parking places provided.
Reconfiguration of the former meant highways officers withdrew an initial objection to the plans, reducing likelihood of any “queueing” of vehicles waiting to manoeuvre.
Concerns were raised by the Canal and Rivers Trust and the Environment Agency regarding land stability and the impact the development may have on the River Calder and Rochdale Canal.
Planning conditions, following the applicant’s “appropriate” exploration of the potential issues, and outlining a method of construction, should reduce risk, said the officers.
