A PLOT of land that brings in £9,000 a year in advertising rates has been sold at auction for more than double its guide price.
Bradford Council listed the strip of land at Otley Road, on the border of Shipley and Baildon, in an online auction this week.
It was one of dozens of council-owned assets that the authority is selling off as part of an ongoing programme to reach financial sustainability.
The 0.43 acre site had a guide price of £90,000, but at the BTG Eddisons auction on Monday it eventually sold for £186,000.
The site has a number of large advertising billboards, and the listing said it generates £9,000 per year via a licence.
News of the proposed sale was criticised by T&A readers.
One said: “Giving up an income stream for a one off cash payment doesn't seem like a move towards sustainability.”
