DRINKERS in Yorkshire and the Humber are more likely to binge drink than the UK average, new research shows.

Drinkaware’s 2026 Monitor found that 21 per cent of drinkers in the region typically consume seven or more units in a single session, compared to 17 per cent nationally.

Sixty-six per cent reported binge drinking in the past year, and 18 per cent said they do so weekly.

Judith Cummins MP, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and MP for Bradford South, said: "As a Yorkshire MP, it is concerning that this research shows heavier drinking in the region than the rest of the UK, but it is encouraging that so many people across Yorkshire are already taking steps to moderate how much alcohol they consume."

The report highlights that, while 90 per cent of drinkers in Yorkshire use at least one moderation technique, 3.6 per cent have unsuccessfully tried to cut back—higher than the UK average of 2.1 per cent.

Karen Tyrell, CEO of Drinkaware, said: "For anyone looking to better understand their drinking or make positive changes, Drinkaware’s free Drinking Check and practical online resources can provide personalised advice and simple ways to build moderation into everyday life and special occasions."
