A Mercedes sped away 'the wrong way' down a Teesside high street after getting spooked by seeing police.
The incident, which is understood to not have involved a police pursuit, happened at about 3pm in Thornaby today (Wednesday, August 26).
The black Mercedes driver has not yet been identified, but efforts are underway by Cleveland Police to track them down.

The car made its way from Thornaby High Street towards the riverside.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "A black Mercedes appeared to react to seeing a marked police car behind it on the High Street and sped away the wrong way, making off towards the riverside.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish who was driving the vehicle."
