The father of soldier Liam Potts has urged people to “hold, cuddle, and cherish your loved ones” in an emotional tribute following the 22-year-old’s death.
Paul Potts thanked friends, family, rescue volunteers and the British Army for their support after Liam’s body was found in the River Tyne near Wylam Bridge.
Liam was reported missing after a night out with friends and was last seen at around 12.20am on August 15, heading into Wylam from Wylam Bridge.
Specialist officers from Northumbria Police’s Marine Unit found his body close to the bridge on August 18.
Police and mountain rescue teams are searching for missing Liam.

In a statement, Mr Potts said: “There are lots of wonderful things being said about our son, which has genuinely touched our hearts.
“A very special thank you to Liam’s other family, the British Army, and particularly his fellow Coldstreamers. Their support during this very emotional time is ‘Nulli Secundus’.”
He added: “Without question, our brilliant rescue volunteers and professionals have, with dignity and a world-class standard, done the whole North East proud.

“The generous donations we’ve received are simply overwhelming and I know the rescue teams are feeling the same.”
Mr Potts said the tragedy would continue to affect many people and encouraged anyone struggling to seek help.
He also wished a “speedy and full recovery” to Freddie, who was injured in the collision on Wylam Bridge.
Mr Potts said: “As parents, we would personally like to wish Freddie a speedy and full recovery. He and his family equally need the compassion and love we have received.”

Ending his statement, he said: “Please hold, cuddle, and cherish your loved ones.
“Smile, laugh and enjoy each other’s company. Liam would have raised a glass to that."
Two men, aged 22 and 23, were released on bail after being re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter as Northumbria Police continues to investigate Liam’s death.
