Cavalry, ancient warriors and artillery demonstrations are set to bring County Durham's Roman past to life at one of the region's most important archaeological sites.
Binchester Roman Fort, near Bishop Auckland, will host three days of immersive re-enactments and family activities from Saturday, August 29 to Monday, August 31.
The event promises to transport visitors back nearly 2,000 years with cavalry demonstrations by The Yorkshire Knight and his horse Raven, artillery displays by Roma Antiqua, and Germanic warrior encampments.

Dr John Castling, archaeology curator at The Auckland Project and manager of Binchester Roman Fort, said: "There is no better way to understand Binchester than to see it filled with the sights and sounds of the Roman world again.
"This weekend will give visitors the chance to experience everything from cavalry and artillery to crafts and archaeology, while discovering the remarkable story of the people who lived and worked here almost 2,000 years ago.
"Binchester is one of the most significant Roman sites in the North and we want people of all ages to come along, get involved and see just how exciting its history can be – and bring your four legged friends along too!"

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet archaeologists from the Portable Antiquities Scheme and handle genuine Roman artefacts, adding a hands-on element to the historical experience.
The weekend will also feature craft activities, guided tours of the archaeological site, and an 'Action Stations' activity trail.
Children can dress up as Roman soldiers or archaeologists, helping bring the past to life in a fun and interactive way.

Binchester Roman Fort, once known as Vinovia, was established around 80 AD to guard Dere Street and the crossing of the River Wear.
Today, it remains one of the best-preserved Roman sites in Britain, boasting towering walls, a commanding officer’s residence, and a bathhouses with a hypocaust underfloor heating system.
The weekend event is part of Binchester’s ongoing development, with new visitor facilities, a gift shop, and refreshed catering options now available.
Food will be served from 12pm to 4pm each day, with card payments only accepted.

The Roman re-enactment weekend runs from 10am to 4.30pm on each day of the Bank Holiday.
Entry is included with a Bishop’s Key or standard fort admission, which costs £8 for adults and £5 for children aged five to 15.
Tickets can be booked online in advance or purchased on arrival.
