Plans have been approved by Stockton Council for a general meeting room within The Robert Atkinson Centre in Thornaby to become a dog day care centre looking after up to eight dogs.
The application was submitted by Onsite Building Trust, looking for permission to change the use of a unit within the community centre- with no major redevelopment planned for the building itself.
The room is currently used for general community meetings, but could soon welcome four-legged visitors as a dog day care facility for owners working or spending time away from home.

The day care will run between 8.30am and 6.30pm on weekdays, with no weekend opening hours included in the application.
The plans state that the facility will create two full-time jobs, while existing parking arrangements at the site, including 28 spaces, will not change.
No objections were submitted by neighbouring residents or businesses during consultations.

One Thornaby resident backed the proposal, highlighting the importance of making continued use of local community centres.
Luke Frost said: "Ensuring our community centres are used and adapted is key to local growth.
"The applicant seeks approval at the centre, which follows on from a long-term tenant 'Muttscuts' and would be a sustainable use for the space."
Grooming salon Muttscuts is another business within the Robert Atkinson Centre that caters for four-legged friends - making the prospect of a doggy day care nearby a natural fit.
The scheme has now been approved with standard conditions by Stockton Borough Council, meaning work can now begin on bringing the new doggy day care to life.
