A former Cleveland Police officer is accused of having sex with a colleague in public and sending sexual messages while on duty.
The unnamed officer - referred to as Officer X - is accused of eight allegations and will face a misconduct hearing later this week.
According to a Cleveland Police site publicity notice, former Officer X ignored specific instructions to tell the truth during a fact-finding meeting on January 1, 2025, instead lying about the nature of their relationship with PC A.
It is also alleged that Officer X ignored specific instructions to tell the truth during a formal vetting interview on August 26, 2025, again in relation to the nature of their relationship with PC A, while also conspiring to lie about their relationship in the event they were asked.
Officer X is also accused of engaging in sexual activity in public places with PC A, knowing and intending that there was a risk of being caught.
The former officer faces a further allegation of exchanging a number of sexually explicit messages and photographs whilst Officer X was on duty.
These messages allegedly interfered with the proper performance of their duty.
Furthermore, Officer X is also accused to have disclosed restricted operational police information regarding the arrest of a former officer without any lawful policing purpose, as well as continuing behaviour that they were told was wrong during their 'Prevent intervention and fact-finding' interview.
Finally, it is alleged that Officer X failed to challenge PC A’s improper conduct when they told them they would lie to the Professional Standards Department and deny their relationship.

If the allegations are proven, Officer X breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour for police officers, specifically the standards of:
- Discreditable Conduct
- Honesty and Integrity
- Authority, Respect and Courtesy
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Confidentiality
- Challenging and Reporting Improper Conduct
The misconduct hearing will take place in Thornaby on Thursday, August 27. If proven, the allegations amount to gross misconduct.
