Essential work in Ripon by Northern Gas Network will bring weeks of road closures and temporary traffic lights
Road closures and temporary traffic lights are to hit Ripon in the weeks ahead as Northern Gas Network carries out essential work.
The utility company says that ageing metal pipework will be replaced with new, more durable plastic pipes in a rolling programme to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Ripon, keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected.
The project, which has been planned in collaboration with North Yorkshire Council, begins this week and is expected to last until around the end of November.
In order that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.
From Monday, August 24, Low St Agnesgate will be closed between the junctions of High St Agnesgate and Minster Road until Monday, September 14.
From Monday, September 7, temporary traffic lights will be in place on this location until Friday, September 18.
Also from Monday, September 7, there will be a road closure on St Mary’s Gate, which will move north from Residence Lane to the junction with Allhallowgate and Priest Lane as the work continues.
This closure will be in place until around the end of October.
Access to St Marygate Car Park will be maintained at all times.
From Monday, October 5, temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Allhallowgate and Priest Lane, until around Friday, October 23.
From Monday, October 19, one lane of Stonebridgegate will be closed and temporary traffic lights will be in place until the end of the project.
Mark Mawhood, Operations Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.
"However, it’s vital we complete them in order to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Ripon.”
