New Thorpe Park station would be a waste of money - Yorkshire Post Letters
From: Martin J. Phillips, Tinshill Lane, Leeds.
Not content with wasting money on changing bus stops from red to green, and all her other idiotic transport schemes wasting taxpayers money, Tracy Brabin now wants to build yet another railway station that trains will not stop at.
A new railway station at Thorpe Park will be served by the same trains that stop at Cross Gates - a station that caters for a much larger population. Only two trains an hour stop at Cross Gates in either direction and the ones heading into Leeds run close together leaving a wait of 45 minutes for the next one. By the time the Leeds trains reach Cross Gates they are already full so any additional passengers from Thorpe Park will exacerbate this problem.
Without additional ‘stopper’ trains on this line, stations east of Leeds will continue to have a poor rail service and passengers will see half-empty trains whizz by. A station at Thorpe Park will be yet another expensive ‘white elephant’.
