'Dangerous duo' admit attack that left man and woman with serious head injuries

Two people have pleaded guilty to attacking a man and woman with weapons outside a Hull home, leaving both victims with serious head injuries.

At around 5.40pm on Wednesday (Feb 25), police received reports of an altercation involving a weapon outside a property on Appleton Road in Hull.

The incident began after a woman asked Scott Harrison for money she was owed, leading to Harrison appearing outside her door and behaving aggressively.

Witness accounts and CCTV footage showed the woman opening the door and being confronted by Harrison, who was wielding what was believed to be a machete.

Harrison then struck the woman across the head, causing a deep 8cm laceration to the front of her face.

During the altercation, Bethany Davis was seen swinging what was believed to be a hockey stick and attempting to hit people in the vicinity.

A man suffered a head injury during the incident.

Emergency services attended and both the man and woman were taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Initial enquiries identified Harrison and Davis as those responsible and both were arrested at their home addresses shortly after the incident was reported.

Detectives carried out house-to-house enquiries, obtained witness statements and examined CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

While in custody, Davis was further arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession of Class B drugs, while Harrison was further arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Harrison, 21, of Bridlington Avenue, Hull, was initially charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Davis, 25, of Appleton Road, Hull, was charged with Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both initially pleaded not guilty and a trial was due to begin at Hull Crown Court on Monday (Aug 24).

However, on the first day of the trial, Harrison pleaded guilty to Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

Davis pleaded guilty to Section 20 grievous bodily harm without intent, which was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Following the hearing, Harrison was remanded in custody while Davis was conditionally bailed.

Both are due to be sentenced at Hull Crown Court on Friday (Oct 9).

Leading the investigation was Detective Constable Chloe Campbell-Hamilton from our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who said: “Harrison and Davis are a dangerous duo who attended the woman’s house armed with weapons, with one motive – to cause significant harm.

“Whilst I am pleased that Harrison and Davis have admitted what they have done, by no means does this undermine what they put the man and woman through, and they both must continue to live with the mental and physical scars as a result of the attack.

“They were both completely reckless, and I am reassured they are going to be jailed and no longer pose a risk to the wider community.

“Violent offending of any nature will not be tolerated, and we will always do everything we can to hold offenders like Harrison and Davis accountable, stacking up evidence to lead perpetrators to plead guilty and get justice for victims.”
