Much-loved York charity shop to reopen this week after major renovation

A POPULAR hospice charity shop - which has served customers in a York suburb for 35 years - is set to reopen after a major refurbishment project.
The St Leonard’s Hospice shop in Acomb is set to welcome customers once again from this Friday (August 28) at 10am.
The shop, which is located next to the Co-op in the Regents Building in York Road, first opened in 1991 and was the charity’s very first retail outlet.

Sarah Baldock, retail area manager at St Leonard’s Hospice, said: "We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to transform the shop into one that we know our Acomb community will love even more.
"It’ll provide a nicer shopping experience for visitors, and a place where people can continue to donate their pre-loved items, particularly now that our Donation Centre has moved to Clifton Moor.

“We rely on the generosity of our community to help us raise £7.5million every year for our services at the Hospice, in people’s homes and in community spaces. We now have 15 charity shops in York and the surrounding area, and one in 10 of our patients at St Leonard’s is cared for thanks to people shopping with us.
“We’ve had such loyal support from the Acomb community for 35 years, and we really hope people will love what we’ve done with their local shop. We look forward to serving them for many years to come.”

The shop is the fifth to adopt St Leonard’s new retail style - following refurbishments in Selby, Malton, Pocklington, and Colliergate in York.
Upgrades include digital screens at the till and in the window, improved storage and sorting areas, and a modern look throughout.

The shop will stock second-hand clothing, homeware, and books at affordable prices in a refreshed, contemporary setting.
The shop will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm, though it will remain closed on the bank holiday on Monday, August 31.
