AN esteemed historian whose latest book coincides with the British Museum’s Bayeux Tapestry exhibition is coming to Malton.
In conjunction with the Wesley Centre in Malton, Kemps Bookstore will welcome historian and archaeologist Max Adams for an evening exploring his latest book, Domesday.
Published to coincide with the British Museum’s significant Bayeux Tapestry exhibition next month, Domesday retraces the infamous journey of William the Conqueror’s agents in 1085 as they compiled one of the most famous documents in history, The Domesday Book.
In this fascinating new history, Max Adams examines eleventh-century England through contemporary eyes, using the original document to chronicle the landscape and its people, integrating the past with the present as he reveals how the Norman Conquest transformed the nation and how its legacy continues to shape our lives today.
Based in the North East after studying archaeology at the University of York, Max Adams’ work explores themes of knowledge and human connections with the earth, with journeys through the landscapes of the past and present inspiring his writing. Previously acclaimed books include the bestselling The King of the North, In the Land of Giants, andThe First Kingdom, all of which earned high praise.
Renowned for combining extensive scholarship with engaging storytelling in an accessible writing style, it promises a riveting conversation that examines a well-known period of history and sparks compelling discussion about how much has changed while also remaining fundamentally the same.
