West Yorkshire, including Bradford, has been issued with a yellow weather warning by the Met Office.
The yellow weather warning is for thunderstorms that are set to arrive later this week.
The Met Office has said the warning will be in place from 6am on Thursday, August 27, and will end at 10pm on the same day.
People across West Yorkshire are being told to prepare in advance for the bad weather.
Thunderstorms may lead to some disruption
The Met Office said: “A band of thunderstorms and heavy rain will move north across England and Wales, perhaps becoming slow moving in the afternoon and evening.
“Accumulations of 20-30 mm in three hours can be expected fairly widely and up to 50 mm in a 12 hour period can be expected in places.
“There is a small chance that some places may see more than 50 mm in three hours and more than 75 mm through 12 hours, especially over east facing high ground.
“Lightning and hail of 1-2 cm will also be hazards.”
There is a chance that homes and businesses could become flooded with damage caused by floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
There is also a small possibility that fast-flowing or deep floodwater could cause a danger to life.
The Met Office has also warned people about possible cancellations and delays to train and bus services and road closures due to spray and sudden flooding.
People should also prepare their homes for possible power cuts and the chance that some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.
How to prepare for thunderstorms
The Met Office has issued advice on how to prepare for the weather warning, such as creating an emergency flood kit and having torches, batteries, a power bank, and other essential items ready for a power cut.
You should also check that moveable items such as bins, garden furniture, and sheds are well secured to avoid damage to your property.
You should check road conditions and bus and train timetables if you plan to travel during the warning.
The Met Office will provide any updates if the weather warning changes, so it is worth checking the website regularly.
