ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners say they are prepared to oppose fresh plans.
Their concerns follow a new application by Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to increase night-time flights, which they argue would have a negative impact on public health and the environment if approved.
Nick Hodgkinson, chair of the Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport (GALBA), said: "We are ready to oppose the airport’s latest attempt to fly thousands more planes at night.
"We will look carefully at the details of LBA’s application and speak to our lawyers soon.
"But we have made an initial assessment of LBA’s latest plan to change the night flight rules, which includes unlimited numbers of planes taking off from 6am.
"What LBA wants would mean a huge rise in night flights, especially during the summer months."
Current rules allow up to 3,741 night flights during the summer season, but the airport is seeking to increase that limit to at least 7,500.
