HOMEBUILDERS are sharing their top tips for a stress-free house move.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes are offering advice to residents in North Yorkshire ahead of National Moving Day, which falls on August 19.

The guidance aims to help make the moving process smoother and more manageable, whether buyers are relocating to a new-build property or moving elsewhere.

Paul Hogan, sales director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, said: "With many people looking to take their next step along the property ladder this time of year, we at Barratt and David Wilson Homes are here to help make that move easier and more achievable.

"For anyone with an existing home to sell, we would like to offer our industry insight into how to best prepare your home and yourself for that big move."

The homebuilder recommends starting preparations early, ideally four to six weeks before moving day.

This includes creating a personalised checklist and booking a trusted removal company in advance, especially during the busy summer period.

Decluttering is another key step.

Using methods like the KonMari approach—asking whether an item "sparks joy"—can help reduce the volume of belongings and lower moving costs.

Organising important documents such as IDs and contracts in a clearly labelled folder or digital file is also essential.

Informing banks, schools, and utility providers of the address change, and taking meter readings at both the old and new property, can help prevent issues after the move.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes also advise labelling boxes by room and contents, for example, "study – books."

Colour-coded stickers or tape can make sorting even easier.

Packing an essentials bag with items like chargers, toiletries, and pyjamas can help avoid rummaging through boxes at the end of a long day.

Arranging childcare and pet care in advance is also recommended to reduce stress on moving day.

For those buying through Barratt and David Wilson Homes in North Yorkshire, the Part Exchange scheme is available, guaranteeing the sale of the customer’s current property and allowing them to move as soon as their new home is ready.

More information on developments in the area is available on the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes websites.
