A vehicle fire on the A1(M) sparked delays of more than an hour after flames spread to a hedge.
The fire closed the motorway northbound between junction 52 at Catterick and junction 53 at Scotch Corner around 2pm on Tuesday (August 25).
Crews were initially called to reports of a vehicle fire that had then spread to a roadside hedge.
At the height of the incident, all three lanes of the motorway were closed with delays reaching around 80 minutes, according to the AA. Traffic tailed back as far as Catterick towards Scotch Corner.
A spokesperson for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a vehicle fire on the A1(M) at 1.53pm.
"The fire had spread to the roadside hedge. Crews from Richmond, Ripon and neighbouring Darlington attended.
"They used two hose reel jets and a dry extinguisher to put out the fire. They have since been released from the incident."
