- The 61-year-old from Crook died at The Queen’s Head pub in Willington on December 24 last year, after being found unconscious just after 4.45pm.
- An inquest into Mr Shevels' death was opened on February 24 but was adjourned due to the ongoing criminal case.
- It heard a post-mortem gave his cause of death as a blunt force head injury.
- The trial is expected to last for four days.
