Poppy the Shetland pony brought smiles and fond memories to residents at a Peterlee care home when she paid a special visit to spend time with those living there.
The four-legged guest, who arrived from Grove Equestrian, spent time at Peterlee Care Home and made her way around the home, meeting residents and staff.
Her arrival was especially meaningful for John Moses, a former farmer, who said the visit brought back memories of his working life.

Abby Wiseman, home manager at Peterlee Care Home, said: "Poppy was an absolute star and our residents loved meeting her.
"There were smiles everywhere as soon as she arrived.
"For John in particular, the visit was very special because of his farming background.

"Animals can bring back so many memories and spark wonderful conversations, and it was lovely to see how much he enjoyed spending time with Poppy.
"We’re always looking for different experiences that our residents will enjoy and this was certainly one we’ll be talking about for some time."
Animal visits like Poppy’s are known to offer companionship, sensory stimulation, and opportunities for reminiscence and social interaction.
