Burn Park Road in Houghton-le-Spring will be affected by works under temporary traffic regulation orders made by Sunderland City Council.

The works, which are due to start on September 1, will affect many roads and footpaths in the area.

All pedestrians will be banned from the footpaths, and all vehicles, cyclists, and horse riders will be prohibited from the roads unless they are involved in the works.

The restrictions will remain in place until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.

The council has stated that the works are expected to take six months, although the maximum duration of the closure under the orders could be 18 months for the roads.

Affected residents will be given vehicular access when necessary, in emergencies, and when work is not in progress.

Pedestrian access to affected properties will be maintained throughout the works.

Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network.

The affected footpaths include all footpaths associated with Thackery Street, Dickens Street, Chaucer Street, Stevenson Street, and several others.

For the roads, the closure will affect the entire lengths of Burn Promenade, Bernard Street North Back, Stevenson Street, Chaucer Street, Bernard Shaw Street, Thackeray Street, and Scotts Street, among others.
