Stockton Council has announced that the full length of Public Footpath No. 4, Whitton, will continue to be closed under a temporary traffic regulation order.
The closure was introduced on August 21, 2024.
The council said the highway authority was satisfied that access should be prohibited because of the likelihood of danger to the public or serious damage to the footpath. The notice said the risk was not attributable to works.
Pedestrian access will not be maintained during the closure, and emergency services will also not have access under the order.

The original order was due to expire on August 20, 2026. The Secretary of State for Transport has approved an extension for a further six months.
The closure will therefore continue until February 20, 2027, or until the works are completed, whichever happens first.
The order applies to Public Footpath No. 4, rather than a road or wider network of paths. It covers the full length of the footpath.
