Two young athletes have returned with world championship medals after representing England on the global stage.
Artem, 16, and Lewis, 12, from York Karate, competed at the 7th JKS World Shoto Cup & Para Cup in Vitória, Brazil, held from August 20 to 23.
Between them, they brought home five medals from the prestigious Shotokan karate championships, which attracted more than 700 competitors from around 30 countries.
Artem won gold in the 16–17 team kumite and silver in individual kumite.
Lewis helped secure gold in the 12–13 team kumite, and also claimed bronze in individual kata and Koten kata.
He reached the quarter-finals of the individual kumite, narrowly missing out on another medal.
Lewis said: "It has been the best experience, competing against so many other countries, everyone has been really friendly.
"I have been very proud to represent JKS England at the event."
York Karate instructor, Simon Flint, said the results were a tremendous achievement for both athletes and for everyone involved in supporting their development.
The club also thanked members, families, and supporters of the fundraising campaign that helped make the trip possible.
Corporate sponsors Argon International and JROC Highways Ltd were also recognised for their generous backing.
The JKS World Championships, held every two years, bring together top JKS athletes from around the world.
The previous event took place in Tokyo in 2024, with this year marking the first time the championships were held in Brazil.
The club said it was "immensely proud" of the achievements of Lewis and Artem.
