A woman has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after lines between York and London were disrupted today.

UPDATE: LINES between York and London which were affected by a major incident have now reopened.

Emergency services were called to a person reported to have been hit by a train near London this morning.

Lines between Alexandra Palace and Welwyn Garden City were closed following the incident, which affected LNER and Hull Trains services to and from the capital.

In response, a spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “We were called at 10.59am today (24 August) to New Southgate Railway Station to reports of a casualty on the track.

“Officers and paramedics attended and a woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

All lines were reported cleared in a National Rail update at 1pm.
