Two York swimming pools shut ‘until further notice’

Two York swimming pools are shut today (Monday).

The pools, at York Sport Village on the university campus, both closed yesterday.

The main pool was closed from 10am “due to a technical issue”, the centre posted on social media.

Then the small pool shut at 12.30pm.

A further updated was posted later the same day, saying “Both pools will be shut until further notice.

“We will provide more updates tomorrow.

“Thank you for your patience and sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Today, a University of York spokesperson told YorkMix: “The pools are having a chlorine refill today.  The pools should be open again shortly.

“We are currently re-establishing chlorine levels following a planned change in our pool plant operation.”

York Sport Village operates one competition standard 25 metre, eight lane swimming pool and an 18 metre four lane training pool.

This is the latest of a series of pool closures in recent weeks.

The main pool was closed for a couple of hours on Friday morning, and there was a similar closure on Wednesday 12 August.

And a burst water pipe affecting hot water supplies shut the pools on Friday, 31 July.
