A TEENAGE walker was rescued after suffering a serious knee injury on a popular route through the Valley of Desolation near Bolton Abbey.
Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association was called out by North Yorkshire Police at 1.20pm on Friday, August 21, to assist a 17-year-old male who had injured his knee while walking on the waterfalls track in the scenic valley.
The casualty had slipped and aggravated a previous knee injury, leaving his knee locked and preventing him from bearing weight or straightening or bending his leg.

A team of 10 volunteer rescuers made their way to the casualty via Bolton Abbey Estate.
After assessing his condition, the team splinted the injured knee before carrying out a stretcher evacuation over challenging and complex terrain to a rescue vehicle.
The teenager was then transported back to the car park for onward care.
The rescue operation lasted two hours and 40 minutes.

A spokesperson for the team said: “A huge thank you to Bolton Abbey for their assistance and for opening the gates to help us reach the casualty as quickly and safely as possible.
“When the terrain is difficult and someone can’t walk out, our volunteers are ready to step in. Every callout, every carry, every rescue is made possible by people giving their time to help others.”
The team wished the casualty a speedy recovery.
